Karin Goodburn MBE Hon FIFST, Director General of the Chilled Food Association, has continued a busy schedule of Listeria-focused presentations and training across the sector.
CFA has launched the UK’s first industry-wide E. coli intelligence database, opening up access beyond CFA members to support benchmarking and best practice in fresh produce and irrigation water safety.
At this year’s National Food Safety Study Day for Hospitals in June, held at Governors Hall, St Thomas’ Hospital, London, Karin addressed the challenge of listeriosis as one of the most important food safety hazards facing the healthcare sector. Now in its fourth year, the event brings together caterers, estates and facilities managers, executive and head chefs, and dietitians from acute, mental
health and community hospitals and Trusts.
The programme featured speakers from the Food Standards Agency, NHS England, the London Borough of Camden, Raynor Foods and Micron 2, alongside CFA.
Fiona Sinclair, Founder and Director of Inspectrum Food Safety and organiser of the event, said: “Listeriosis is one of the foremost food safety hazards in the healthcare sector, and so understandably is a subject which hospital caterers are keen to know as much as possible about. Respected as a leading European authority on Listeria, we were really grateful for Karin’s presentation and the brilliant knowledge shared. We received great feedback about Karin’s session.”
The event continues to support the development of food safety awareness and leadership across the hospital sector, feeding some of the most vulnerable in society.
Also in June, Karin delivered a webinar to Ashford Port Health, drawing this feedback from one of the Port Health Officers who watched the recording: “Thank you very much for the training. I was really impressed by how effortlessly Karin navigated such complex topics – it was a pleasure to watch, and a proof of her expertise.”
Alongside this in June, Karin presented at the Royal Society for Public Health on Listeria, the law and best practice, and has this summer delivered multiple Listeria training sessions for CFA Members – helping to ensure that guidance is translated into practical action on the ground.
